found a new medium…get it? haha

This is obviously not a blog…I already have one of those. I do want to say for my first Medium post, that this will solely be a place for me to work out my thoughts and opinions on issues that matter… and also some that don’t matter.

I’ve had a Twitter for a long while now and surprisingly, I’ve found it very useful. My ideas and thoughts were challenged. I was given a platform to express myself. I’ve changed a lot of my views these last couple of years but have also solidified others that I’ve always strongly held. Twitter and its network allowed me to sift through many views via tweets and articles to form a more solidified opinion.

However, on twitter, one is limited to a few characters. I’ve tried expressing myself on my blog and Facebook but both places pose a problem. Writing on my blog was like standing on a street corner with a poster that showed my beliefs- a lot of people could see it but no one really cared to stop and read. Writing on Facebook was like trying to sell a product at a mall kiosk. Sure, I had an audience to some extent that I could interact with, but there were other kiosks to choose from and unless I was totally obnoxious, no one (other than my mother) wanted to listen to me.

Not that I’m expecting Medium to give me a grand following…but I do have hope that it will allow me (honestly a nobody when it comes to journalism), to have a more credible platform from which to speak.

I don’t expect my posts to get views but I do think this is a legitimate place where I can share my views and opinions along while being challenged to do it to my best abilities (while other platforms feel more like a word vomit rather than a thoughtful, constructed sentence).

I value the ability to share one’s view in a constructive way. I want to keep improving in how I dialogue about issues that offend me, excite me, opinions that are popular and not-so-mainstream, and genuinely ask questions that frighten me and intrigue me.

You know what they say about opinions… they’re just like asses- everyone has them.

I also want to be a better writer, for the sake of myself.
