This virus will be the death of my business.

This virus will be the death of my business.
If you’re thinking that then this message is for you.
I’m not going to stretch the truth. It’s bad out there, and it’s about to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.
Most local businesses are closing, those that aren’t are laying off employees and most likely, you. It’s not their fault, it’s survival mode right now. Eliminate the nonessentials to make room for what’s necessary to survive.
Except that’s the biggest issue.
You are now the most essential part of the business.
Remember this, When times are good, you should advertise. When times are bad you must advertise.
People are scared. Your clients are scared.
You need to be a rock.
You’re an entrepreneur. You’re a freaking lion. This is what you signed up for. Good times or bad, hardship or heroism, this is it.
The last 12 years were a bull market where anyone could slap the words “Entrepreneur/CEO” in their bio and have a job. We were raised in a golden summer where anyone could succeed. We were always told winter was coming but put that off as a simple myth.
Guess what, Winter’s here.
To be transparent I won’t act like we’re doing hot either. For the last 3 months, my agency was hovering between 5–10k per month.
This month we will make a whopping 2,000.
I am going to lose a lot of money, I don’t have that much in reserves to keep us afloat, and I’m not sure how long we’ll be able to last in these conditions with our current overhead.
That being said. I have a team that relies on me, as many of you have families that rely on you. And we won’t let any of them down.
We’re god damn entrepreneurs. We’re the apex of humanity, we’re tough as hell, and we thrive in discord. So button up and let’s get to work. Here’s a simple thing we did with all of our clients two days ago. Mark likes to name things so here’s my name. I call it the “Covide Care Package”, Thanks COD. Take today to call each client and ask them “Tell me what’s going on in your business, what are you scared of, how can I help?”
“Do you have a plan to let your customers that you’re there for them during this crisis and how your business will be operating in the next 60 days?”
Once this thing really kicks in and we’re all self quarantined expect to see an estimated 17.7% increase in e-commerce advertising spend and SOCIAL MEDIA SPEND TO RISE BY 22.2% (based on mirrored metrics by the CU economic forecast)
“So who’s going to be talking to your customers when they’re spending more time on their phones THAN EVER BEFORE?”
Realistically a simple email broadcast built for your clients to send to their customers that states: You’re here for them during this tough time and will be making X changes in the company to accommodate them
How the business will be open and or closed during this period
How operations are moving online for an indefinite time
How they can reschedule their services or get a credit on something they already purchased.
Could make a WORLD of difference in their brand perception.Keeping the trust of their customers, and reassuring they made the right choice by working with you.
Do it for free and get this sent out by the close of play. With all this downtime, you might be even able to get them to opt into BIG packages that they’ve been holding off on because they were too busy.
We just sold today a £1,500 recurring monthly Digital Marketing management. AFTER 5 MONTHS OF OUTREACH because of the client never having the time to actually sit down and do it. Now he’s got more time than we could have asked for.
You can also offer temporary emergency changes in the contract. For example, all of our clients sign a mandatory three-month contract stating that come hell or high water we will get paid.
I just ripped those contracts up. Canceling effectively a guaranteed £4,500 of recurring revenue. I might not get paid and yeah life may be a little tight these next couple months but at least my clients know that when it came down to it, I had their backs.
The short story long here is this.
When little people are overwhelmed by discord, it’s our job to share our calm, not to join their chaos. Chaos is our friend and he’s coming to town for an indefinite stay.
We’re entrepreneurs, we’ve been through much worse, others will die in the heat of all of this, but not us. We put out so many fires on a daily basis we need not know what it is to be burned.
Give em hell.
