In one study researchers gave the same test to both black and white students. Half started with a question about their ethnicity but they were otherwise the same.

This was no study but plain stupidity. If I get such a ridiculous question on a math test I would think about what kind of bullshit is this for the rest of the test. Only reading about it made me upset.
Anyway, I agree with what you are saying about bias and its consequences.
Not being an asshole is not enough.
Saying that I care about all people equally, is not enough.
The damage was done for years.
Only honest consistent caring about others will change perceptions of those who feel mistreated eventually.
