Please welcome Vangst, the leading talent network for careers in cannabis
HQ: Denver, Colorado
Founder: Karson Humiston
The problem: The emerging cannabis industry has lacked tools that mainstream industries take for granted, such as talent acquisition solutions. Without an industry-specific recruiting resource, cannabis companies have struggled to find and hire talent.
Vangst’s solution: The job recruiting platform connects quality candidates with leading cannabis companies through direct hire, employees on demand, and a job board, with more than 5,000 people placed since its inception.
Origin story: As a college senior, founder Karson Humiston learned that her classmates wanted to pursue careers in cannabis but, after researching the industry, learned that although the area had thousands of available jobs, companies faced challenges hiring because they lacked tools to connect with talent. I saw an opportunity to be the first to market and immediately started, she says.
Why we’re betting on it: Since we invested in LeafLink last year, we’ve seen a voracious need in the cannabis industry for technology solutions. When we first met Vangst, Karson had already signed hundreds of companies and thousands of candidates onto her platform. It was clear to us that she could build Vangst into the go-to recruiting platform for what will inevitably become one of the largest industries in the U.S.
Our take: As legalization gains momentum, cannabis companies are becoming better established, creating an opening for ancillary services and technology businesses to enter the space. Because many large companies are still hesitating to touch cannabis, startups are meeting the sector’s evolving demands. These companies are looking to quickly fill a growing number of open roles, putting Vangst in an ideal position to meet the industry’s hiring needs in the years to come.
