9 Ways to Overcome Being ‘Too Stoned’
Paranoia, anxiety, couch-lock… some of us know the effects of ‘greening out’ and it’s not fun. Maybe you ate 2x more of that edible then you should have because it didn’t ‘hit’ you after the first 20 minutes. Next thing you know, you can’t tell if you’re thinking something in your head or if you’re saying things out loud (Pro Tip: if you’re moving your mouth, you’re saying it out loud).
At Break Green, we’d hate for someone’s experience with cannabis tainted from one bad session. We’ve seen our fair share of panic attacks due to over indulging cannabis, so we’ve pulled together some ways to counteract the effects. (DISCLAIMER: WE AREN’T MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS AND THIS IS NOT MEANT TO BE MEDICAL ADVICE)
1. DON’T PANIC!
Most symptoms of “greening out” will dissipate within minutes to hours with no lasting effects beyond a little grogginess. Contrary to what you may have heard, there have been ZERO reported cannabis overdoes deaths in history of EVER!
2. TAKE IT SLOW
Try to prepare for your cannabis session according to your tolerance level. Take it slow, especially when consuming edibles. If it’s your first time with an edible, we recommend trying a dose of 5 mg and waiting at least an hour before increasing your edible dosage. The same goes for inhaling methods. If you are used to taking one hit off your personal vape, we don’t recommend sitting in a circle puffing and passing for an hour!
3. HYDRATE
Don’t forget to hydrate — whether you prefer juice or water. Just make sure to have a nice cold beverage on hand (preferably non-caffeinated). This will help you combat dry mouth and allow you to focus on sipping and swallowing.
4. BLACK PEPPER
If you find yourself combating paranoia and anxiety, a simple household ingredient found in every kitchen can come to your rescue. BLACK PEPPER! Many swear by the black pepper trick (even Neil Young)! Just sniff or chew on a few black pepper corns and it should provide instantaneous relief.
5. KEEP CALM and REST
Find a calm and quiet place to rest and breath deep. Remind yourself these feelings will soon pass. Sometimes sleeping it off can be the best alternative to stopping a strong high, but it’s not always easy to turn your brain off.
6. TRY GOING FOR A WALK
Sometimes a change in scenery and fresh air to get your blood pumping will help invigorate you. Just remember to stay close to your immediate surroundings — -You don’t want to get lost!
7. TAKE A SHOWER OR BATH
Try taking a nice shower or bath as a really pleasant option to help you relax.
8. DISTRACT YOURSELF
Any of the following distractions should help you to not think about how high you are, and also will do wonders for making the time pass quickly making you feel better in no time!
- Watch Youtube/Netflix
- Listen to your favorite album.
- Play a fun video game.
- Talk to your friends.
- Try coloring as a calming activity.
- Eat something delicious.
9. TRY SOME CBD (a/k/a Cannabidiol)

If THC is the “Ying” then CBD is the “Yang”. CBD is essentially nature’s antidote to the high THC can produce. In simple terms, CBD works by blocking THC from binding with the cannabinoid receptors in your brain, toning down the effects from THC. Even if you live in a non-marijuana friendly state, you can still order Hemp CBD Oil which is legal in all 50 states and will have the same effect as cannabis CBD. Never hurts to have some on hand just in case. If you are in a legal state, we’re a fan of Moxie Med’s Recovery tincture, which is 4:1 CBD:THC.
Cheers,
Nij
