💯 SONG OF THE WEEK: “22 / 10 — Single” by Bon Iver

Ok, this single actually has 2 songs on it so we’re kinda cheating this week, but Bon Iver are back and we’re far too excited to care. This is their first new music since 2011’s Bon Iver and — don’t freak out — it’s a little different from their super mellow fan favourites like Holocene and Skinny Love (and don’t get us started on the Aphex Twin-esque song titles). The good news is Justin Vernon doesn’t know how to write a bad song and both of these new tracks are 💯.

🔥 BEST OF THE REST

Spit It Out
by Slaves

If you’re not familiar with Slaves we should probably warn you… they like to yell. A lot. But don’t let that put you off, they’re very good at it & even got a Mercury Prize nomination for their debut. Album #2 is “coming soon” & this the lead single.

Bang Bang
by Green Day

Green Day have been pretty quiet since their 2012 ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! album trilogy, but Billie Joe & Co are officially back. Bang Bang is the lead single to their upcoming 12th album, Revolution Radio, which will be out on October 7th.

Stand By Me
by Florence + The Machine

Stand By Me is one of 3 new songs recorded by Florence + The Machine for the video game, Final Fantasy XV — apparently Flo’s a fan. Along with 2 original songs is this cover of Ben E. King’s 1961 classic.

City Lights
by Jack White

City Lights is the first track to surface from an upcoming album of acoustic songs recorded between 1998–2016 and spanning both Jack White’s solo career and his time with The White Stripes.

Do You Love Someone
by Grouplove

If you’re a fan of the hilarious Bojack Horseman on Netflix, you’re probably already familiar with Grouplove (they wrote the theme song). If not, you’re in for a treat. A delightful, sun-kissed, summery treat 🌞.

Kids
by OneRepublic

Even though they released the single Wherever I Go back in May, the M83 inspired Kids will officially be the lead single to the band’s as-yet-unnamed 4th album, which follows up 2013’s multi-platinum Native.

Seven Words
by Weyes Blood

One of the lesser known artists in the newsletter this week, but easily one of the finest songs. Seven Words is taken from her upcoming 3rd album and is a must listen for fans of Angel Olsen & Jessica Pratt.

Power Over Men
by Jamie T

Jamie T has announced his follow up to 2014’s Carry On The Grudge and shared this new track from it. Trick is out on 2nd September and will also feature the previously released lead single, Tinfoil Boy.

Medusa’s Outhouse
by Cass McCombs

Believe it or not, Cass McCombs is now on his 9th album and they keep getting better and better. If Opposite House (lead single, featuring Angel Olsen), and Medusa’s Outhouse are anything to go by Mangy Love could be his best one yet.

Bird Song (Blaqstarr Remix)
by M.I.A.

With Interscope apparently blocking Diplo’s version of Bird Song, Go Off co-producer (with Skrillex) Blaqstarr is first out of the gates with his remix. One version of Bird Song will feature on M.I.A.’s follow up to Matangi, but who knows which one.
