Music Monday, 21st March 2016

Welcome to Music Monday — your weekly round-up of the Best New Music, videos, articles & upcoming releases on Let’s Loop.

💯 SONG OF THE WEEK: “Solitude” by M83

Following the almost cheesy (but still great) lead single — Do It, Try It — the latest track to surface from M83’s upcoming 7th album, Junk, comes as a bit of a surprise. Solitude is sweeping, epic, cinematic and almost sounds like Pink Floyd at times. Even by their own very high standards (Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. anyone?) this feels pretty special.

🔥 DON’T MISS: “The Community Of Hope” by PJ Harvey

PJ Harvey is to music what Piers Morgan is to cable news”

Ouch! Yup, PJ’s new single about Ward 7, an underdeveloped neighborhood in Washington D.C., is a little controversial and not going down too well with politicians there. Politics aside though, the song’s great & will join The Wheel on her follow-up to the Mercury Prize winning Let England Shake.

🔥 DON’T MISS: “Aviation” by The Last Shadow Puppets

Aviation is the 3rd single from The Last Shadow Puppets’ upcoming 2nd album (ICYMT, have a listen to Bad Habits & Everything You’ve Come To Expect) and it’s easily their best one yet. The video sees Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner & Miles Kane getting hot & sweaty in their vests before ending up in the graves they dug. Enjoy!

🙌 WORTH A LISTEN: Kaytranada announces his debut album 99.9% and shares Bus Ride, Iggy Azalea shares Team from her upcoming 2nd album Digital Distortion, Lucy Dacus shares I Don’t Wanna Be Funny Anymore, Deftones share Doomed User, We Are Scientists return with Buckle, Go Swim with Surrender, Mourn share Evil Dead, HANA shares Underwater, and Nicholas Allbrook from POND & Tame Impala shares Advance

😍 LET’S LOOP CLASSICS: “Bob Dylan” by Bob Dylan

“Bobby popped every ‘p’, hissed every ‘s’, habitually wandered off mic and, even more frustrating, he refused to learn from his mistakes or do second takes.”

It’s safe to say that the recording of Bob Dylan’s eponymous debut album— which turned 54 this week — wasn’t all smooth sailing, but damn if it doesn’t still sound incredible.

🎬 VIDEO OF THE WEEK: Kendrick Battle Raps English Teens

Kendrick Lamar surprised everyone by showing up to a Hip Hop Workshop for young musicians in Manchester, England. Check out the video of him battling some of the awestruck fans.

🤓 ARTICLE OF THE WEEK: I Want You, Still

As Marvin Gaye’s 1976 boudoir masterpiece I Want You turns 40, producer & co-writer Leon Ware talks to Pitchfork about how one of the sexiest albums in music history came to be.
