A Stressful Way to End the Year
The end of the fourth quarter was going well for me at Highland High School. I was going out on week nights with my friends and playing pick-up games and cards almost every night. I was really starting to think that it was going to be a great end of my senior year of high school.
I thought wrong.
Starting around the beginning of April, I got slammed with school work. Of my four classes, I sadly found out that we would be cramming in a lot of assignments before the end of the year.
In my calculus class, we would be learning a lesson every Monday and be taking a quiz every Friday. I checked out of “calc” after first quarter.
In my AP statistics class, we would be taking practice AP exams for a grade every day to prepare for the AP test. I still don’t think I’ve learned anything in that class all year. Our teacher had surgery and was out for a couple of weeks and in those weeks the substitute let my friends and I play cards during class. While this didn’t benefit me at all, at least it was fun.
In my Akron public speaking class, we would have a speech to give and a final exam to take. How do you even take an exam in public speaking? Shouldn’t the “final” just be a speech?
Oh well.
And last but not least, English. We were assigned a Capstone essay which, to be honest, I’m still not done with after working on it for three and a half weeks. Anyway, this essay was supposed to be 7–8 pages and I’m currently at six pages. I’m struggling to get the last page, but I will eventually get there. I have a couple of days left.
The substantial amount of work given to me in just four classes is kind of mind-blowing. I’m getting through everything one step at a time, though. I know that finishing out this year strong will make my parents happy and I’ll be satisfied with all of my hard work. I only have a couple of things left to do! But overall, I’ve had a great senior year. I can’t deny that. I think I’ll miss high school even though I’m really looking forward to college.
