Social media outreach

Throughout this course we continue to learn the many platforms of what is social media. The problem is this seems to be never ending, there is always a new social network. Once you become familiar with one, it has become the Myspace or the one no one is longer using. As the Public Relations for my nonprofit it is very important that I learn as much as I can in order to reach out to as many as possible.

I am lucky enough to work with a nonprofit that does not have to rely on financial support of donors. However, convincing people here in the Ozarks, that not only they can make a difference, but they need to that is one of the biggest challenges yet. The locals here seem to be willing to help local nonprofits as much as they can with the hope and understanding that they are fixing a problem too big for them to cure. They have a very different reaction when you tell them that the problem is here literally in their own backyard.

So where exactly is that social media line? The one that helps you get the word out to the masses that are too ashamed to listen. Convincing those same people that child abuse rates here are the second highest in the country. While this course teaches us how to use visuals, pretty pictures, and statistics sometimes that can be the very thing that scares our audience away. How much is too much, and how do you make it to where the people listening are not convinced you are trying to manipulate stats via social media.

All of these are things we must take seriously, because as Dr. Groves has told us throughout. If you give someone a reason to not trust you, especially in the world of nonprofits. Not only will you disappear faster the Myspace, your nonprofit could as well.
