The Maltese Falcon comes to mind. I watched it as a young girl and then revisited it while taking a postgrad seminar on Crime Lit. I can look up my syllabus and see what I got there. If your daughter is on the parody group after the proper Noir I do recommend Woody Allen’s The Curse of the Jade Scorpion or whatever the name of the movie is.
