I Left The “Grand Old Party” Today

I am a reader from Australia and we are also in an election year.

I don’t always bag Americans, but under the influence of this miserable excuse for a man, Trump, you, as a nation, have reached a new low, and the fact that you are even, as a nation, contemplating him as a reasonable occupant of the White House makes a mockery of you, again, as a nation.

The simple expedient of electing something just because of his money, and for the life of me I can’t see anything else standing out that makes him worth electing, makes a joke of the entire electoral process.

Don’t get me wrong though, you don’t have this idiocy to yourselves. This need to elect neo-cons and others who really have no idea where they are going, or what they represent, in terms of the people, but rather represent big business and little else, is being shared all over the world, including Australia.

We elect a little differently to you, in some respects; we elect a party and they elect a leader. We have had 5 prime ministers in only 5 years because the parties, Labor (your democrats) and Liberal/National Party (your GOP/Republicans), decided that the elected leader was useless. They were usurped mid-term by their own electors, and in one case, and maybe 2, Abbott and Rudd) they were sort of right.

Now we are approaching our elections, like you, with baited breath. Will we get another half wit (Turnbull) or a career union functionary (Shorten). Those are our choices, and with your options being Clinton and that idiot, I hear your pain.

I have asked that if that idiot wins your election that we secede from the United States of America, as your 52nd state.

If Clinto wins, like us, we will still all be stuffed, but at least I will have had my say.
