The Air is pungent with the smell of burning birch wood. The sky is clear with a billion stars twinkling down at me. The sound of the crackling fire combined with the soft sounds of the water of Paudash Lake is relaxing and serene. Every now and again, a loon calls out in the night, echoing it’s eerie call across the lake. I never want to leave this place, but I will have to.
I had decided almost last minute to head up to a long time friend’s cottage for the weekend. It was my first weekend off in nearly two months, and I needed to get away.
We left for the semi-long journey up to Paudash Lake which is just outside of Bancroft Ontario. It was a nice drive. Clear skies, the presence of a rainbow and the serene sounds of Koda, her cat, meowing and yowling loudly consistently every 5 seconds the entire drive up.
we arrived at the cottage right at 8pm (we had to work on the friday so leaving for the cottage was a little late), had a late dinner and got dressed to have a fire. When I say fire, I mean fire. Especially with my friend and her nana tending to it. Small logs? Yeah right, try an entire pile of sticks fallen from the many birch trees on the property. Lets just say, I am just over 5 feet, and that fire was staring down at me, all hot and angry.
With the fire over, and our bones a tad bit chilled, we headed to bed.
Saturday was bake in the sun day, so we did just that. Under the glorious heat of the bright summer sun, we set up base to bake. Now, Im never smart with sun safety. I always tend to turn myself into a lobster. I did put some SPF 60 on my tattoo. That was it, and I am definitely paying for it right now as I am sitting here typing this. It also does not help that we had a mini bake session today as well…
I wish I could sit in a tub of Aloe right about now or have some hot boy that I know rub aloe on me all day.
Now that I am home, Im ready to sleep forever. Unfortunately, I have work in the morning. THANK GOD im off at noon.
