We met

one day

In the dim corridors…

of our school.

You looked nervous…

I saw that…

Our eyes met

I smiled…

You smiled…

Thus began

a journey…

Unpredictable

As we walked

into the portals

of our

Friendship

We made

Promises…

“BFFs forever”

“I have got ur back”

“Never alone…”

However,

we were different

Never saw eye-to-eye…

You had your tastes…

I had my preferences…

You were dependant…

I was detached…

You wanted closure…

I didn’t …

But we managed

through…

The first few months…

Then the waters

turned turbulent…

You were still too attached…

You were still too dependant…

I was chocking

The air round us

got heavier…

“YOU are suffocating me”

“I need my own space”

I blurted out

one rainy day…

Thus ended…

Something that was

already inexistent

in my heart…

I prayed never

EVER

to see you again…

But still you wished

“All the best for your future…”

I remember…

I look back

to the days past…

Often…

Trying to make sense

of what went wrong…

After much contemplation…

I know now

YOU were not the problem

I WAS

I was incapable

of appreciating

your quiet concern…

Or your shoulder

on which I have shed a tear or two…

Whenever I looked back

you were there

Patiently waiting…

I wonder what You

saw when You looked back

Probably a person

Insensitive…

Arrogant…

Who didn’t appreciate you…

Who took you for granted

Now walking

along the dim corridors

of our school…

We meet

yet again…

In a different time

You smile…

That same old warm style…

I don’t..

I turn back…

You hold my hand…

“How are you?”

“I’m good”…I say…

You chat…

As if nothing had happened…

What is this I wonder…

Could someone still

be so kind and loving…

To a person like me?
