Lady Who Brunch
Yes, Lady. Not Ladies…
February 6, 2016. A perfect 76 degrees and crystal blue skies. I had to be out. I had no one to go out with. So I took myself out! Santa Monica here I come!
I chose a nice place I had been to before, Sonoma Wine Garden, for its outdoor seating area that has always had a laid back chill vibe (and bottomless mimosas ;)) and figured I’d just read a book on my iPad. HA! I walk towards the restaurant and music is blasting! Like your annoying neighbors house party when you just want to sleep. The place is packed! Hostess suggests I sit at the bar since after all, I’m only a party of one. So I take my seat at one of the last open seats at the bar and wait. Waiting… Waiting. And waiting. Literally took 15 minutes to get handed a menu. I get it, its busy and there are only 2 bartenders.
So after a few minutes with menu in hand I finally can place and order and enjoy that first elderflower mimosa. PURE BLISS! I try to read my iPad but ya know that odd sun glare that makes it impossible to read wins and I am left to eaves droppings on others conversations. Heard all about one dudes first date. Lots of hungover ladies (HOW THE HELL DO YOU LOOK SO PRETTY AND BE HUNGOVER?!). And what I suspect, sugar babies with there sugar daddies. Thankfully the brunch crowed died down and the bartenders were able to keep my water glass full and oblige my splurge on a glass of Veuve Clicquot (at sugar babies suggestion). Also must add I was not the only party of one. I tried to sit near the other lonely souls but no open spots.
Very odd and interesting experience. Perhaps the wrong place to go alone but seriously if anyone wants a good suggestion for brunches and a mid day party atmosphere, GO HERE! It looked like a lot of fun and so many beautiful people to watch. And after the initial lag in service, bartenders were awesome and very kind.
So after indulging in my champagne fill for a few weeks I was off to shop off the buzz. Not sure if I look unapproachable or a single girl alone is intimidating but it felt like no one was acknowledging me! I needed someone to tell me to buy this, this, and this, and that, that, and that. I would stand around waiting for someone to ask what I was looking for or take the 10 dresses I had in hand to start a room and nada. I needed to see a shoe in my size and I just got side eye. But then I walked into Lush for the first time.
SOLD! GIVE ME ALL THE BATH BOMBS! ALL THE SHAMPOOS!!!! Girl, I was sold the second the most beautiful black man with fabulous eye lashes suggested the “Sex Bomb”. Didn’t buy that one cause it was too sweet but his attitude almost made up for the candy smell. Did get the frozen and just tried it out. WOW! I might shower off the scent is still so strong. But so fun to watch! That store is AMAZING! And thus far, loving the shampoo and conditioner. Wonderful service and awesome products.
So my Saturday of self indulgence was a success to me. I spent too much, found my dream dress, and improved my hair. Thank you Southern California for being 76 mid winter and El Nino season. Now if only I could look more approachable…
