A day in my social life…
Getting up in the morning the first thing I do along with most people my age is pick up that little piece of plastic that connects us to the world; our smartphone. Most of us even sleep with our smartphones under our pillow or on our nightstand within an arms reach. While it is usually the first thing i look at in the morning before taking a shower to get ready for the day i do not check social i take a look at the weather and check any texts or emails that came in throughout the night.
On days where i head straight to my downtown job i’m not usually on any social platform until the afternoon or evening; frankly because at work i do not have time. Unless i am doing it for a client or looking up what is on a clients page, which happens atleast once a week, i am not on any platforms for personal use until the afternoon or evening. On the other days when i have class first thing at 8am i am usually on facebook and twitter a few times throughout the morning because class eventually gets boring so the book of faces is more interesting.
Heading home for the evening whether it be after class or work i will get my computer set up on my desk and usually pull up facebook for a few minutes before diving into homework or freelance work i have to get done that night.
On and off throughout the day if a notification comes in i’ll specifically click on the notification and go on social on my phone but once i find out what it is about and maybe respond i put my phone back in my pocket.
Though the exception to all of this is if there is a big news or sports event happening i’ll throw hootsuite on in the background of whatever device i am on to stay updated on everything. As history has continued to tell us news can break alot faster on social platforms than on the traditional news.
Looking back at a daily use of any social platform i feel that i am one of a few exceptions in my generation, most people my age cannot put facebook or twitter down whether it be for themselves, brands or work.
