At the end of August 2016 I moved to Dublin. As a traveler that previously lived in Boston, USA and Lausanne, Switzerland I had high expectations of this place. The only difference now is that I have more time to explore things on a slower pace and not being afraid that I might not have the time to visit all.

So my very first post is about the beautiful south coast of Dublin, the villages Bray and Greystones. This coastal walk is around 6.6 km long and the trail is easy so everyone can do it. It’s a perfect weekend getaway for a day.

Arrival to Bray/Greystones

The standard way is to take a car or use the train. My recommendation is to start the walk from Bray and walk towards Greystones but it can be done in both ways. Also the DART line goes to both of the villages so whatever makes you happy. Why I decided Bray towards Greystones? Well keep reading to find out…

Bray

The walk starts from this place, the beach of Bray. Just keep walking towards the little hill and follow the people to discover the beginning of the trail. Another tip, the hardest part are the first 50m, after that it gets way easier and warmer.

The railway and the cliffs

The walk is on the cliffs and the trail is very well made. At some points you can spot the train (DART) that passes by you. This trail was originally created when the railways were being built and is now left as great gift to Dubliners.

Arrival to Greystones

Almost at the finish line of the walk you’ll spot wonderful grassfields that look like the Windows 95 Wallpaper.

Coastal walk in Autumn

While being in Ireland for total 3 months I managed to do this walk twice. You can understand why I love it so much.

The second time I did the walk was 2 months after the first one and it was already autumn. It was even more beautiful. I’d say there is no right time or season to visit Bray/Greystones.

Greystones Harbour Marina

At the end of the walk you are supposed to get to the Greystones Harbour Marina. It offers variety of things to do so maybe it’s a nice idea to check it out before arrival.

Food in Greystones — perfect after trip award for yourself

Greystones is the perfect place to end the walk due to the fact there are two very nice places to eat that I highly suggest. The first one and my personal favourite is La Creperie that has really nice pancakes. It’s extremely cosy and warm place, and almost always has places to eat inside. In the warmer periods there are lovely outdoor tables to enjoy the good weather.

The second option is the healthy option — a restaurant called The Happy Pear. It’s an amazing place and a bit more crowded but worth the time.

Enjoy! Bon apetit!
