The land of tulips — Keukenhof 2019
I have been living in Netherlands for more than 7 months and I absolutely love it. The country is so vibrant and there’s so much to see and do.
The top 1 thing to experience is definitely the flower (mostly tulipes) gardens, called Keukenhof.
The gardens are huge but totally doable (walkable) in few hours. Just make sure you take your comfortable walking shoes.
How to get there?
There are various options:
1 ) by car (parking fee is 6 euros, you can buy online),
2) by organized bus tour from the bigger cities e.g. Amsterdam or
3) by train + bike.
The last option is nicest as you get to see the fields of Lisse: full of colored flower fields, only blooming in the period March — May.
What time and day are best to visit?
Or perhaps when not to go? Simple put, sunny weekends & bank holidays.
Weekends are super crowded unless the weather is not looking good.
If you are driving there, absolutely avoid bank holidays and Kings day, again when nice weather, as when the parking gets full, the roads are closed and you’re forced to queue for hours without a guarantee you will get inside.
The same stands for buses as they get full you won’t be able to get on them.
The only option to get there 100% is by train + bike. The only downside is, the gardens will be super full of people and it will be very frustrating to queue for the perfect snap you wanted.
What to see in Keukenhof?
Everything! At the entrance you can get a map of Keukenhof, that I highly recommend to take, start by making a plan and see all of it. The earlier you get there, the less crowded it will be and you’ll have more time and space to capture the perfect photos.
Apart from the open gardens, there are few covered places that have restaurants and cafes inside. There you can take a bite and some fresh smoothie to refresh or simply hide from the rain.
