You bet- I worked for my first company for about 4 years in a number of positions but felt pretty taken for granted (in many areas, but certainly compensation). When I was interviewing for my first job change, the new company asked for salary requirements and I gave a range that was a 30–40% increase over what I was making, initially assuming we’d be trying to meet somewhere in the middle. They came back with an offer at the low end of my range, which was a huge win for me. They specified that it was a firm offer, but I didn’t need to negotiate from there anyway, since they’d already given me what I asked for. (As a side note, the company I had been working for offered to match the new salary- I didn’t bother telling them that if they’d offered even half of that a month prior, I wouldn’t have been job searching in the first place!)
