I take issue when I see Cam Newton being criticized for not being “professional” because ithe very idea of what it means to be “professional” was conceived from white people. When you compare Cam Newton’s conduct to how his white counterparts have or would have conducted themselves, it comes off as if he is being criticized for not acting white enough.

For years I have watched as Allen Iverson, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss & others have been demonized by the media & had their names dragged in the mud for not conforming to how the mainstream interprets “professionalism” and gets on my last nerve. Who the hell are you to dictate who a person should be? Of course there are many of those who have chosen to conform and fit into your expectation of “professionalism” thus reinforcing your narrow perceptions and therefore allowing you to be blind to how ridiculously unfair and unreasonable these expectations are. Hell yes, there are many of us who have chips on our shoulders and so much to prove and unless you are black, you won’t understand but that lack of understanding does not give you a license to dismiss or disregard the existence of racial bias when it comes to the public perceptions of and how we tend to judge black athletes.
