Motivation, or the desire to do something new, is the soul behind all great successes or movements in history. The reason we have vessels that can reach outer space, is because of a motivation to beat another country to the moon. Motivation can make or break great businesses and leaders. Money is a key motivator, but not the end all be all for some employees. When you give your employees something to get behind other than just monetary compensation you can create an unstoppable workplace.

Creating a Positive Environment

Having your employees happy in the workplace can create a workplace in which your employees will be motivated to perform behind the leadership of the person creating that environment. When presented with the idea that there is more to life than your workplace, you can grab your employees on a more personal level. This allows you to gain insight into your employees lives and understand what they are here for. Create events for after work activity to bond with your employees, or just check in with them about their personal lives.

Leadership

A large portion of gaining motivation with your employees can lie within yourself, the leader. When you lead by example and not by title or position you can break some of the barriers that employees think there are between them and you. If you consider your employees as partners of success, rather than your subordinates, the employees can get behind you for success rather than under you. When you lead with integrity and trust your roads to success are more easily bolstered with your employees who help stand with you.

Creating Value

When you generate value behind your employees they perform with better results as they are more invested in what and why they are doing it. You must be able to understand what their personal goals and business goals are, and allow them to create their own path. When you make an environment that is too demanding and taxing on what their idea for success is, they become apathetic. When you understand how they view success, you can better understand how to set their goals. You can show the employees the value of their work and how they can affect the overall business as a whole. This can also tie into what they put into the company and what the can get out of it.

There can be a lot behind trying to get your employees motivated, but it all boils down to having good communication between you and the ones you lead. No one wants to be follow someone who doesn’t care to listen to them or realize they are individual humans, and not a number.
