Leadership is a privilege, those who have the privilege to lead, have the duty to act.

Nobody’s perfect, we all have flaws, but when you are in a position of influence, you have a duty to become more than you were before.

There are flaws that if they continue will steer any leader down a dangerous path.

Here are some of those flaws that will derail great leadership.

1. Not setting the example.

Leadership is not a position or a title, it is action and example. Everything starts with you. Step up to the plate and be the example that you can be proud of.

2. Having an ego.

Ego is your leadership’s worst enemy. Leave your ego at the door. Because all ego does, is edge out greatness.

3. Thinking you are better than others.

Never look down at anyone. Confidence isn’t walking into a room with your nose in the air, and thinking you are better than everyone else, it’s walking into a room and not having to compare yourself to anyone else in the first place.

4. Not having humility.

Great leader’s stay teachable. True humility is knowing you always have something to learn, regardless how much you already know.

5. Surrounding yourself with mediocrity.

When mediocrity becomes the accepted norm, excellence dies a painful death.

6. Lacking vision:

Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just pases teh time, vision with action can change the world.

7. Not speaking with respect.

Treat people the way you want to be treated. Talk to people the way you want to be talked to. Respect is earned, not given.

8. Having low standards.

It’s hard to win at leadership when your standards are low to begin with.

9. Being a thug.

Being a bully isn’t leadership. Pulling someone down is never going to bring you up.

10. Letting integrity and honesty slide.

Your message, your leadership, your influence is built in part on your flaws, You can try to cover them up with dishonesty and blame, or you can diligently work to improve yourself in everything you do. Whichever one you choose will become your legacy.
