Why I’m Supporting Jeremy Corbyn

“They’ll get in power by essentially pretending to be Tories and if they do win power they’ll basically be Tories, just like they were before.”

That’s quite unfair. I have no love for New Labour but it’s simply wrong to say they were Tories. Half the things we’re protesting about are the abolishment of programs Labour put it.

  • Massively increased spending on the NHS
  • Massively increased spending on Education
  • EMA! A very underrated policy that helps many people.
  • Big progress forward on gay rights
  • Child tax credits.

and more. Those benefit cuts that made you so angry? There were put in by New Labour.

I left Labour after the Iraq War and rejoined under Corbyn but I am beginning to think that people are right when they say we need power to be able to do anything. What’s the point of having a true left-wing party if you can’t change anything?

To be honest the real watershed moment was the Leave vote. Not so much that Corbyn was rubbish at campaigning but it’s clear how disconnected we are with working class voters. Then you see Corbyn talking about Cuba at rallies?

I worry we indulge ourselves with things like this when people are suffering.

Anyway just my thoughts.
