I wish it was mini potatoto chips for pooches! In reality, they are tiny microchips that have been inserted under the dog’s skin (cats and racehorses can also be microchipped!). This chip contains an ID number, which is unique and holds info on the animal and their person so that they can be reunited in case the puppers wanders too far from home. Most (all?) vets and animal shelters have scanners that they can wave over the animal and if there’s a chip, the info will pop up and they’ll hopefully be able to reunite animal + person. You have to pay a small annual fee to keep your info current (and so it will show up when the vet scans your lost dog!).
