So you’ve been playing X-Wing for a little while now, and want to play around with customisation. Maybe you’ve been to your local and seen guys attaching LEGO minifigs to their pegs. Well, if you ask me, they’ve got it the wrong way around. This super simple guide will show you how to make the minifig replace the peg itself.

Step 1.

You’ll need a 2x1 LEGO brick. Flat or regular, doesn’t really matter.

Standard LEGO 2x1 brick. Next to a standard X-Wing base

Step 2.

Line the LEGO brick up with the base, and push it in. Yep, that was easy, wasn’t it? Almost like it was designed that way!

Slots in perfectly

Step 3.

Prop the LEGO minifig of your choice on top of the LEGO brick. This really was quite easy, right?

Almost there…

Step 4.

Now, those pegs we normally plug into the bases. Funnily enough, they’re perfectly the right size of a minifig’s hand! And now you’re done. A sturdy LEGO minifig holding up your X-Wing miniature.

Red 5, standing by!

The whole thing is super solid and will happily last a full day tournament without slipping or getting knocked off. Need to adjust the height or position of the ship? Just wiggle your minifig’s arm up or down. Enjoy!

Step 5 (Optional).

If you’ve magnetised your ships (see my ‘quickest and easiest’ guide here), you can go one further: lightsabers!!

Swap the peg out for a lightsaber with a magnet or ball bearing superglued on the top, and voilà! The best way to hold up a Jedi’s ship

Now we’re just messing around.

Step 6 (Optional).

Want to get creative? Any combination of peg, LEGO lightsaber and/or various LEGO parts will make cool things happen!

With custom dial covers. Check out my other guide on how to make those.

Addendum.

Q: But is it legal? Can I use this in a tournament?

A: Yes! See Tournament Regulations page 5 regarding pegs.
