You may know this, but many women (Muslim women in particular) do not take their husband’s names. I remember assuming that my to-be sister-in-law would and she got very offended. It led to a very heated discussion about her father and family. In Islam, all people are known through their father (you frequent see the words “son of” and “daughter of” and their own name. My Mother-in-law has a name that carries nothing of either her father or husband. It is her individual name. Just thought I’d share a global perspective.
