There is a huge opportunity for the buildings of the world to become smarter and help the planet avoid the greatest environmental threat it has ever faced. Nuuka´s mission is to make buildings smarter and we want to invite you to breakfast in Helsinki to learn all about it.

So, what’s the deal with ‘smart buildings’?

Smart buildings are more efficient, they use less energy, provide good indoor air and are pleasant to work in. We are all increasingly interested in understanding our impacts on the environment. But while we might choose organic food and sustainably sourced clothing over more polluting alternatives, I personally haven’t seen a lot of talk about ‘organic buildings’.

Organic buildings? Yes, you read correctly. In the EU alone we have more than 20 million commercial buildings that are consuming enormous amounts of resources, isn’t it about time we worked towards making them smarter?

Making buildings smarter is also a great opportunity for building managers and portfolio owners to save money. Sounds like a win-win, right?

Our ‘smart breakfast’ is about all of us as stakeholders and influencers in the real estate space coming together to hear about ways we can make a difference on many levels. Over breakfast we will discuss how to make buildings more energy efficient; how to manage them using building big data so that buildings perform at an optimal level; and learn about how to move from ‘reactive maintenance’ (fixing broken things) to ‘pro-active maintenance’ (fixing before they break). ‘Intuitive maintenance’ you might call it. A practical example of this kind of intuitive maintenance Nuuka makes possible is fixing a broken air conditioner or freezer before you get complaints about bad indoor air quality or realize that a freezer full of ice-creams are melting into a milky puddle.

Everyone agrees that we want a great future for our children and grandchildren. We all want to do the right thing. I am a strong believer in the fact that if you can create a business case for making good, good services and good things will happen. As we have recently seen, it’s not politics alone that can influence world (for better or worse). The business community could be the best driver for the change we all want. Making our buildings smarter is one step businesses can take towards the greater good.

I am excited about this breakfast event on a business-level (I am the CEO of Nuuka after all) and on a very personal level too. As many of my closer friends would know, I just finished building the ‘dream house’ for my family. It’s one of those particularly ‘Finnish’ dreams (a house on a lake with two saunas!). During the construction process I was interested in smart solutions myself and I did end up getting some ‘smartness’ into my own house. But not nearly the same amount we see in bigger commercial buildings these days.

The cost of ‘smart’ for an individual home is still quite high for one family, but this really is not the case anymore for commercial buildings. This is why I am very excited to hear what the real industry experts in commercial and corporate real estate have to say about ‘making buildings smarter’.

We have Mr. David Neil from Genesta coming to our event.

He is someone I really look forward to hearing from, since David is the CEO and one of the founders of Genesta and has 25 years of experience in the building industry. He has worked in both the American market and numerous locations in Europe. and his insights into current trends of the building industry are something you don’t hear every day. A breakfast meeting with David Neil would be a very smart move, without Nuuka being involved!

The buildings of the world can become smarter, more efficient, and much more pleasant places for us to live and work in. Our ‘smart breakfast’ is an opportunity to come together and share insights and learn about how we can all do something meaningful towards the goal of making the buildings of the world healthier, less impactful environmentally and more efficient financially.

This is an opportunity for us to let our combined market intelligence come together over breakfast in Helsinki.

Be smart. See you for breakfast.
