Being Aware
Try being aware. When someone says something, you don’t have to say anything in return that highlights anything about you and your virtues.
Try turning what you want to say, be it kind or unkind, and turn your response into a question.
Be genuinely curious when asking questions, and leave expectations out of it. Seek to listen, not to hear. Seek to understand, not to react.
The response you’ll listen to will bring you something unique, something you weren’t aware of.
And that is one of the many examples of the practice of being aware.
