Welcome dear friends, this week I would like to talk more about what spirituality means to me, what it looks like in this modern world and how we all have something to gain from this inner exploration.
First off, spirituality can appear like such a loaded word, and it is my experience many people might even shy away from using it. Somehow this word has come to be thought of as the sole domain for either new agey philosophies or Eastern Religions such a Buddhism or Hinduism. Such a stance leaves many believing this is the only way to ‘be’ spiritual, as if no other expressions could possibly exist. But this thinking then prevents so many from understanding they are in fact spiritual and are absolutely in the midst of the great adventure of their life. Let me explain.
For me, being spiritual connects to the word psyche, the soul, and by this I am not referring to an entity in a transmigration from life to life and birth to birth. A life connected to the spiritual wants to explore and discover, it is a life rich with curiosity, wonder, a sense of awe and gratitude for the many strange and beautiful and mysterious facets of our world, on both an inner and outer level. The soul to me is the sum total of both our conscious and unconscious sides, the dynamic and play and quest for integration and harmony between these two parts which speak such different languages, at least in the beginning.
This to me is the very heart of the spiritual journey, this grand adventure we all find ourselves in whether we do so readily and directly or not. We each are relearning the languages of the soul, of our unconscious half which is the store of all our greatest treasures, our innate wisdom and harmony and intelligence guiding us towards a natural peacefulness. We have the opportunity to live a rich, diverse, abundant life when these two parts of our being work together as beloved allies, and by this our innate gifts can then be shared within and without. For the integration of any individual unlocks tremendous potential and gifts not only for herself but for an ever-expanding understanding of the community all life shares.
We are not here to live for ourselves, or our small family tribe or individual sense of community. We are here to live in loving co-operation with the whole of this magnificent life all around us, not because we have been told to or coerced by anything. Integration of our own being allows us to see at last our greater connection to all expressions of life existing around us. There is no faking this genuine vision and interconnection with all life, and by this we see at last the world is our home and our responsibility, all life on this glorious planet part and parcel of the unity and harmony existing within and without.
