My favorite hero of all time Jessica Jones
the moment that you quit and have to walk away from something is probably one of the most heartwrenching moments you have to do, especially if you don't know what the future is going to hold after that. Sometimes quitting isn't always a bad thing. It's just depends on whether you are giving yourself a clean slate, or giving up on yourself.
The panel above you see above is Jessica Jones, a comic heroine, quitting being a superhero because she just escaped a supervillian that sexualy and mentally (not physically, you have to read the story) abused her with his mind control for 8 months. Nick Fury, leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. tells her she's a "survivor, and a fighter, and we need you on our team." However she says, "I'm done with all of this anyhow. All this costumes and shit."
The central theme of any hero or heroine is that amist any changing point of their life is that they decided to do something good that can further society. Moreso some heroes can turn their bad life and experiences into a lesson to teach and help others not to ever get into that situation. However how do we procieve someone that doesn't take that opportunity? Do we consider them selfish? A coward? Anything far away than we would call a hero?
Even though this is a fictional story of a comic character, domestic abuse and the victum losing the free will to control their actions is very real. It happens often. It was all over the news in the NFL the past recent years. 2 of my friends had a mutual friend murdered by her boyfriend in the bay area in October. My friend a week after had to go home to see her friend at the hospital because her face was beaten in by her ex boyfriend. The hardest part of the conversation when I talked to my friends about this was them stating "No one ever talks about this kind of thing. I don't know who to ask to help about this."
How Jessica Jones carried herself after what happened was probably the most realistic thing I ever read. People don't realize that escaping is only half of the battle. Always in back of your head that you tell yourself that you may never become normal. I still remember when I was able to get out of my domestic violent situation. I hopped on a train and didn't look back. All the anger, the drinking, the isolation and being emotionally evasive became the weapons that me and Jessica Jones used to survive.
Jessica Jones is my all time favorite hero. More than Spider-Man, Batman, or any of the Avengers or X-Men. She has shown that you can thrive through your troubled harden past and maintain strong morals with conviction.
Thank you Brian Michael Bendis for being such a great writer and writing a story meant for me and other "broken" people
Everyone, please watch "Jessica Jones" on Netflix. And if you really enjoy it. You can borrow my copy of "Alias," the comic book about Jessica Jones.
