Creating and restoring housing opportunities in Flint

Creating housing that works well and enhances the community is part of the mission for Communities First, Inc. This innovative nonprofit led by Glenn and Essence Wilson is committed to investing in Flint and providing housing opportunities as the city works to re-position itself.

Communities First combines the history of developments with modern upgrades, creating housing opportunities for the people of Flint.

LG Calley proudly participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly renovated Swayze Court Apartments, now offering 36 supportive housing units in downtown Flint.

Not only will this redevelopment provide a safe place to call home for surrounding communities in Flint, but 28 of the 36 units are designated for those with special needs and disabilities or have risk of being homeless.

The Michigan State Housing Development Authority proudly supported the project, providing Communities First with Low Income Housing Tax Credits totaling $8 million for the redevelopment.

This project literally opened doors for Flint residents who didn’t have good housing opportunities before. LG Calley congratulates Communities First and can’t wait to see even what they do for the community next.
