Inspiring future leaders in Lansing

Giving future generations the opportunity learn and grow is very important to LG Calley. He greatly enjoys interacting with students of all ages as Lt. Governor and talking about the different career opportunities that exist in our state. On Tuesday, LG Calley was able to meet with two groups who were participating in events at the Capitol.

The LG and Bernstein spoke with a student reporter about their work together.

The Student Statesmanship Institute is going on this week in Lansing where teenagers are gathering at the Capitol to learn about state government and how it operates.

LG Calley joined with Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein to speak to the students about the importance of working together to create good, rather than be divided by politics. Despite their different political beliefs, LG Calley and Justice Bernstein have traveled all over the state promoting hiring Michiganders with disabilities through the MI Hidden Talent effort. They provided a great real world example to inspire teens to come together and make a positive difference in Michigan and the nation.

The insurance industry plays a large role in our economy, creating thousands of jobs and providing coverage to most Michiganders. To give college students the full insurance experience, the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services brought together interns from insurance companies across the state to explain about how state government is involved with the industry.

LG Calley welcomed the interns to Lansing and emphasized the opportunity that exists for successful careers within the industry. They also had a discussion about where they think the industry is going.

It’s always a privilege to speak with the next generation of leaders and LG Calley hopes to interact with more student groups and interns soon.
