Marine Week: a special observance for our bravest

Lieutenant Governor Calley joined hundreds of Marines in Detroit today to kick off Marine Week. This observance is a week long opportunity for Michiganders to celebrate the pride and professionalism of Marines, recognize their sacrifice and the sacrifice of their families, promote a general awareness for USMC programs and maintain the positive image of Marines across our state and nation.

From today until September 10, Marine Week activities in Detroit will help share the story of the United States Marine Corps with an audience that isn’t often exposed to Marines.

Col. Chandler Nelms, Commanding Officer of Marine Week Detroit gives us a peek at week ahead:

The LG had the special privilege of opening this week’s festivities, and recognizing the role which Marines, past, present and future, play in reinforcing our values and protecting our nation.

LG Calley thanked all who serve for protecting our freedoms and for choosing Detroit for this annual celebration.
