How to capture uncompressed footage with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro
Warning: Capturing uncompressed 1080p60 video is VERY CPU and HDD intensive. Write speeds can hit up to nearly 2Gbps. Please make sure you’re using a very fast SSD or raid-0 HDD.
What you will need:
- Windows 7 or higher
- Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro
- The 3rd party drivers for the HD60 Pro
- VirtualDub
The steps:
- Install the HD60 Pro inside your PC
- Download and install the latest Elgato Game Capture software from elgato.com/gaming/download
- Once the software is installed, restart your PC
- Open the Game Capture software for 30 seconds. This will update the HD60 Pro firmware if it is not up to date.
- Restart your computer.
- Download the DirectShow 3rd party driver for the HD60 Pro
- Once installed, restart your PC.
- Download Virtualdub.
- Now open Virtualdub.
- At the top left, click on file, then near the bottom, click on “Capture AVI”
- Click on file again, then “Set capture file”. This will be the name and location of your captured video.
- Now click on device, and in the dropdown menu, select “Game Capture HD60 Pro (Video)(#01)(Directshow)
- Under audio, choose the “Game Capture HD60 Pro (Audio)(#01)
- Now click on video, and in the dropdown menu, click on “Capture pin”
- Here you will choose the properties of the HD60 Pro. The recommended settings are
- Frame Rate: 59.940
- Color Space/Compression: YUY2
- Output size: 1920x1080 (default)
- With those settings, click on apply.
- Click on the “capture” menu, and select “Capture video”
- The screen will flash for a second, and now you are capturing uncompressed YUY2 4:2:0 video.
