How to capture uncompressed footage with the Elgato Game Capture HD60 Pro

Warning: Capturing uncompressed 1080p60 video is VERY CPU and HDD intensive. Write speeds can hit up to nearly 2Gbps. Please make sure you’re using a very fast SSD or raid-0 HDD.

What you will need:

The steps:

  1. Install the HD60 Pro inside your PC
  2. Download and install the latest Elgato Game Capture software from elgato.com/gaming/download
  3. Once the software is installed, restart your PC
  4. Open the Game Capture software for 30 seconds. This will update the HD60 Pro firmware if it is not up to date.
  5. Restart your computer.
  6. Download the DirectShow 3rd party driver for the HD60 Pro
  7. Once installed, restart your PC.
  8. Download Virtualdub.
  9. Now open Virtualdub.
  10. At the top left, click on file, then near the bottom, click on “Capture AVI”
  11. Click on file again, then “Set capture file”. This will be the name and location of your captured video.
  12. Now click on device, and in the dropdown menu, select “Game Capture HD60 Pro (Video)(#01)(Directshow)
  13. Under audio, choose the “Game Capture HD60 Pro (Audio)(#01)
  14. Now click on video, and in the dropdown menu, click on “Capture pin”
  15. Here you will choose the properties of the HD60 Pro. The recommended settings are
  16. Frame Rate: 59.940
  17. Color Space/Compression: YUY2
  18. Output size: 1920x1080 (default)
  19. With those settings, click on apply.
  20. Click on the “capture” menu, and select “Capture video”
  21. The screen will flash for a second, and now you are capturing uncompressed YUY2 4:2:0 video.
