I have seen teams approach a new venture by starting with innovation, then try to explain how it helps someone, improves current state, etc. Other teams create a solution to the problem after the problem is apparent (more lean perhaps?). It sounds to me you are saying ultimately in the deck, there should be no difference between what was the first step, given that it is about the story of the value to investors.
