1988 novelty hit “Bring Me Edelweiss” was as direct a byproduct of KLF’s The Manual as there ever was, a mashup of ABBA’s “S.O.S.” and club classic “Last Night a DJ Saved My Life” with Run-DMC samples, Bavarian yodeling, dizzying Italo-house keyboards, more Bavarian yodeling, and some of the worst rapping ever committed to record.
Which is to say, it’s one of the most awesomely weird pop hits this side of “O Superman” and “My Ding-a-Ling,” and is also just awesome. This is the story of its unlikely journey:
