What is your goal?
Riding in a taxi and not knowing where to go, makes no sense and costs money.
Lately I have been talking to many people who have great ideas and tell me how they want to do and why they want to do and how they will do it, etc, etc. Even happens to me every day, every website I visit or at every place I go, me ideas or questions arise, about a thousand things I want to do.
The problem I have is that although I have a thousand great ideas in my head, when I ‘m doing my check list I realize that many of these ideas I do not serve anything at the time for things that I need or I want to achieve and I only have capture it and save it for use at some point.
Many of the ideas that other people tell me in talks fall apart for people who come to me, when I do the big question: What are you getting at? What is your goal?.
Many of us are spoiled (especially in advertising) that ideas have to be sold and that ideas are more important. I came to the conclusion that it is not.
And before many tearing their hair out I explain why:
The ideas (personally I think) are part of a solution to something, ideas are not the target, the ideas are the medium. Is an ingredient of a part of the recipe. We have a thousand great ideas, like having a hundred tomatoes in a basket .
Instead, have a goal and a clear target I think is the key. Knowing where we want to go and what is the motivation of why we go to that place should be our main focus to everything we do.
That’s why I always use this example of the taxi: You can board one and ask the driver to take you somewhere. (What a great idea!) But if you do not tell him where, he did not know the route or place and all you do is spin around and lose money. And taxi drivers (providers) that do not care.
Especially when we work, either with a team or alone, be clear before you start doing anything what are the goals we have in addition to their goals and from there generate ideas and solutions where we want to go, although the process more difficult, the result will tell you more beneficial to all.
Today with the information overload, multitasking, overvalued ideas, we lost focus, which must always have to know where we want to stick our flag. Where we want to go.
One of the actions I took to control my overdose of ideas and focus is every day to be clear my objectives and goals, even before my schedule and tasks and organize my life and the best way. It costs a lot, because we have the impulse to implement our great ideas into our lives, but unfortunately that makes us lose the north and above all our goals.
Then each task list, calendar and ideas that I do have the title of the objectives and goals, so do not ever forget where we want to go.
