Holiday Season & Kelso Post Design

As much as I believe that it’s still too early for Christmas music, I eventually have to realize that Black Friday is less than four days away, and the countdown to Christmas has begun. Inevitably this means dragging down the holiday lights, garlands, and other things from the attic and literally decking the halls.

We have been preparing for our three major wintertime events these past few weeks, our adult-oriented Holiday Tea, our member-oriented Holiday Gathering, and our child-oriented Christmas Family Fun Day; the first and last of which I designed posters and wrote articles for.

Our most recent Kelso Post was sent out this past week (here); which included an article written in the Akron Beacon Journal on a program one of our Board Members gave titled “How To Be A Good Ancestor.” This was the second newsletter to be sent out via MailChimp, and the reactions have been wonderful. In two weeks time, Mail Chimp has proved that it is so much better and more powerful than using Outlook, and we have cut the preparation time nearly in half.

We’ve also added a new feature to the website which prompts users to join our newsletter whenever someone lands on the home page. This pop-up allows non-members and members alike to join in and stay up to date on all the Museum happenings.

One of the more exciting things that occurred this past week was the decision on the temporary closing of the Museum for reorganization, and the board decision to remove the 1990's electric stove (which is used to hold the microwave) from the Office. The decision to keep the Museum closed until February offers so much for us as an organization to expand and prepare for what we believe will be a busy season for tours. During this time the Curator’s husband will come in and repaint the centre halls, an intern from Kent State will start her project on data entry and oral history, and I will begin my reorganization of the Museum Archives & Storage situation (a task that becomes more and more daunting every time I look into the storage rooms).
