Hopefully, I’ll be OK.

I love sharing, it’s probably one of my favourite things to do whether it’s
music, knowledge, resources, or just funny memes. When I find something that I feel like someone would dig, I want to share it.

With that in mind don’t snap your neck.

Thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings I appreciate it. I just finished my 2 and a bit years at Okalpha so it’s always good to reflect on what has been and what the future will hold.

A little backstory from me, I started out as a drummer hoping to have a
lifelong career in music but life happened and I didn’t really end up just being a musician. In school, I studied all the wrong subjects and didn’t ever really think I was creative. I thought I should stick to all the boring stuff so I could go to university (lame). After many random jobs and years of figuring out what I wanted to do (outside of music), I found graphic design and started learning and scraping the internet for all the information I could find.

After dabbling in design, video, motion graphics, grading, coding, and all the stuff in between, I narrowed down that I really enjoy design and motion. That organically led to me wanting to be more focused on being a motion designer.

After working a few different jobs and enjoying parts of them I decided it
was time for me to put my big boy pants on and apply for a job that I really
wanted. I had seen Okalpha online and had briefly met up with Grant and
Dillan and chatted about nerdy animation things. I had always wanted to
work with them but the imposter syndrome came knocking and I never felt like I should bother applying.

I was working at my previous job and felt like I wanted to be doing the
best kind of work that Okalpha was doing. I mostly worked in startups
so unlike Grant and Dillan I had mostly just worked with peers and not with
senior animators. I was craving to work with people who were masters and from whom I could learn and push myself harder.

I saw their ad for hiring a mid to senior animator and I thought to myself,
“Let me not be a little b**tch, just cut a new reel and apply.” I managed to
scrape together some of my better work and made a new intro so I could try and stand out from anyone else who was applying.

I sent through my mail with my new shiny reel and just let it float along the
strands of the internet. I went along with life and didn’t really expect to hear back from them. After a while, I got an email and they said they wanted to meet up and chat. I didn’t really believe it but the rest is history.

Through all the crazy crap that has happened in the last couple of years, I’m super grateful that I got to work with people I look up to and learn some valuable skills. Just keep putting in the hours and working on your creative journey and trust that you have something to bring to the party.

Thanks for stopping by.
