While you do make some good points, the key point of defining centrist as being dead is simply silly. Our entire Constitution is built to ensure that more centrist thinking is reached through compromise before anything can get passed with the possible exception that one party controls the White House, Senate and the House, which the Republicans currently do. The Democrats have controlled all three at times also. This is ‘dangerous’ for a Republic.
I have always liked the status when one part (House or Senate) is controlled by one party and the other by another party. This ensures that some type of consensus must be reached through compromise in order for legislation to be passed. Compromise is NOT a dirty word. While neither party gets exactly what it wants, everyone gets ‘something’.
Without this compromise ability, our country can be put in a position that a significant portion of our citizens will not be duly served by our government. This is what is happening now and over the next two years until the mid-term elections in 2018. I’m hoping that the Democrats win back the House or the Senate (but not both).
I have been called a conservation, a liberal, a libertarian, a smart guy and an idiot concerning my political views. I guess I’m a centrist. :)
