In this day and age, every business needs a copywriter at some point or another and there are two ways you can go about this; a) Hire a full-time copywriter who might not be busy for the entire time, or b) get in touch with a freelance copywriter who’ll only charge when they’re actually working. Purely from a financial standpoint, the second option looks a lot better than the first.

Why would pay someone to sit around until you need them? Having a full-time writer working for you can feel like throwing money down the drain, so going with a freelancer, and only getting in touch if and when you need them is a win-win for both your business and the freelance writer.


But Why Would I Need A Copywriter? And What Does A Copywriter Do?

Think about it for a second: If you’re a business that wants to be successful, you’re going to need a website, and that website needs to be populated with content. That content not only needs to be well written, but it needs to be optimized for the web (SEO), has to represent your business and brand perfectly and has to get across the point your business is trying to make in a strong, sensible way. In some cases, getting ‘your point’ across would boil down to making a sales pitch that doesn’t come across as a sales pitch.

And there’s also the fact that copywriters tend to be incredibly skilled at what they do, so if you’re willing to pay, you’ll definitely get what you’re looking for.


Why Should I Hire You As A Copywriter?

That’s a great question, and one you’re perfectly entitled to ask. You’re a busy person, so I’m going to try make this as quick and easy as possible. I graduated from Griffith College Cork in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and then graduated from University College Cork with a Higher Diploma in English, both of which I received a Second Class Honors grade in.

Even during College and University, I honed my craft by writing for a number of publications, both online and in print, giving my extensive experience in writing for both print and the web. Because of my experience, I have been able up-skill in Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and have been able to show that I can write in both US- and UK-English, letting me easily switch between the two with ease. To date, I already have over four years experience producing copy for various companies, working in a Journalistic capacity with some publications, while producing sales copy with others.

For much of those years, I have also worked as a Social Media Marketer, being in charge of publicizing various content that I produced across Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. Through this, I have been able to show that I can produce engaging copy for Social Media while promoting the company, helping to increase Fan Engagement, build Brand Awareness and help Drive Sales.

In addition to this, I have worked solely as a Digital Marketing Specialist for close to a year, giving me experience not only in producing copy for Newsletters and Social Media, but also designing said Newsletters and producing Sales Copy that is optimized for the web on a regular basis.


So You’ve Got Experience. How Much Do You Charge For Freelance Copy-Writing?

I understand that most companies are on a tight budget, especially SMEs; this is why I try to keep my rates as low as possible while still being able to keep a roof over my head and the electricity turned on. However, not every Freelance Copywriting job is the same, so I always quote based on the size and complexity of the job at hand — a 400 word blog post about a certain pair of headphones is quite different than a 1,000 word article on the benefits of using one kind of insulation over another, for example.

In short; my rates highly depend on exactly what you’re looking for and I normally quote on a per project basis — i.e. I set a mutually agreed on price for the project. Payment is normally paid on a 50% upfront and 50% on completion basis, although this is slightly negotiable.

Alternatively, I sometimes agree to an hourly wage for the project, although this may not be the best route, as the amount of time needed to complete the project can vary drastically depending on complexity of the project, number of revisions etc, so I normally agree to the price per project basis mentioned above. That way there are no surprises in regards to payment for either party.
