Luma News — Funding

We’re excited to announce today that we’ve raised a $12.5 million Series A led by Accel Partners, with significant investment from Amazon.

We’ll use these funds to continue to scale the company to fulfill the massive demand for Luma, expand our global operations and continue to do research and development on all our products — so they’re the very best for our customers. Accel and Amazon’s expertise in consumer hardware and distribution will be vital in this next phase of Luma as we begin to ship and scale.

Which brings us to an update on pre-orders. We’re happy to announce that Luma has sold more than 30,000 pre-orders; and that number more than doubles if you include our early retail partner orders. Units will start to ship in June, as originally scheduled.

We’re excited for our customers to start to see Luma in action. Our passionate group of early beta testers have had units for more than two months and the response has been overwhelmingly positive, from the performance and set-up process to the safety, security, and overall user experience. Luma users can now stream movies in bed, where they couldn’t before, for example, or connect their outdoor WiFi cameras to the network.

In other news, Matt Duffy, previously of Sonos and Apple, joins our team as vice president of supply chain & operations, and Anil Jagarlamudi joins from AirWatch and VMware as our new vice president of engineering. Both strengthen our team with unique skill sets that will be key for Luma in the coming months and years.

Stay tuned for more Luma news updates. In the meantime, feel free to contact us at with any questions.
Many thanks,
The Luma Team
