Thank you all for your continued support. We wanted to send our early customers a quick update in order to make sure everyone understands our product roll out.
Launch
We’re pleased to have launched on time to rave reviews. Network World awarded Luma 4.5 stars out of 5. PC Magazine said “Luma delivered an impressive 457Mbps”. Forbes said Luma “works exactly as you’d hope.” We’re proud of our team’s hard work and fortunate to work with such talented people.
Shipping Schedule
We started shipping Lumas on June 16th and will continue shipping to pre-order customers over the coming weeks. If you ordered directly from Luma, you should have received an email with a specific ship date. If you did not receive your date, then we do not have your shipping address. Please make sure you respond to the address request email. If you ordered from Amazon, you will receive an email from them next week with your ship date.
Ramping Production
We ended up receiving three times the original volume of pre-orders we expected, so we’re shipping to people on a schedule based on our ability to ramp up production. Each week we are shipping more, with production ramping up to 10,000 units a week come mid July. Every pre-order customer will receive their Lumas by August 26th, including Amazon customers. While we knew that it would take a few weeks to ship out all Luma pre-orders, we did not initially plan for it to take these additional weeks. Through final testing we found ways to squeeze in more WiFi performance improvements so we started the factory production ramp up later than expected. Given the choice between being delayed a few weeks or shipping a product with even better performance, we decided a few extra weeks was the better option. We are working around the clock to accelerate timing to beat the dates we shared with our customers.
Color Options
During our pre-order, we offered four color choices. When we were testing the different colors in final beta, we weren’t satisfied with how the light ring reflected in non-white units so we decided to ship only Solid White instead of launching a product we didn’t love. We expect to reintroduce color options at some point in the future. Meanwhile, everyone who ordered a different color from GetLuma.com received an email from us on June 27th with your ship date for Solid White Lumas or an option to cancel. Regardless, each of you who ordered a different color will receive a $25 Amazon gift card for your troubles.
Retail Partners
When we announced product shipments started on June 16, we also announced a retail partnership with Best Buy. This partnership has been in the works for about a year (before we ever announced the company and started pre-orders). While a limited amount of units are initially available to Best Buy for retail, more than 95% of our production volume is dedicated to fulfilling pre-orders.
Need your Luma sooner?
We understand that some people have greater urgency to improving their home’s WiFi than others. Some people may be moving this summer. Others may be experiencing terrible connectivity. Others may have purchased an inferior competitive product. You know your WiFi situation. Because of this, we’ve set up a special email address (betterwifinow@getluma.com) where you can request to receive your Lumas sooner than your delivery date. We’re hoping to beat our production targets and will do our best to take extra units and send those to people who make a request.
