Letter to No One in Particular, Mid-November 2014
Hello,
Today I’m thinking about the times we’re living in without any coherency.
The writing of Chris Ballas at thelastpsychiatrist.com, the lyric from Eyedea and Abilities’ Junk, “There’s no fulfillment in a lazy nation that keeps feeding our infatuation with the idea of being famous”, the CGPGrey video Humans Need not Apply, the musings of Ray Kurzweil and Singularity University, Aubrey De Grey, Raymond McCauley, Benedict Evans and his cohorts at A16Z, the documentary Will Work for Free, the first 10–15 minutes of the documentary The Four Horsemen, and the musings of the Gillmor Gang. Take all of the aforementioned and combine it with my personal life, my Poem #1, and depression seems the result. The future and present seem technologically marvelous and humanly awful.
That’s all for now for this letter.
Take Care,
Nova
PS: I’m so dissatisfied with the lack of explanation, analysis, and format of this letter that I may, unlike other writing on here, update this substantially in the future. The items above could be a nice list, with a brief description of each linked item. There could be a non-narrative tying the items together, and on and on.
