Day 35 Saint Paul de Vence and Nice France

Thank you Niko and Laurence! We took your recommendation and went to Foundation Maeght! For our Westchester friends, it reminded me of the best of the Purchase sculpture gallery and Storm King Art Center! You know I was In heaven! And I think Jonny enjoyed it too😊

It is a private collection of modern and contemporary art in all forms. The courtyard is filled with sculptures and ceramics by Miro, Chagall, and Braque to name just a few.

We started in the outdoor sculpture garden which was my favorite, Jonny actually loved both!

Inside, was a tremendous Chagall painting, and one of his more contemporary stained glass windows…very different from the Chagall stained-glass we know in our little Pocantico Westchester chapel.

The temporary exhibit was of Eduardo Arroyo, not my favorite artist, but you do have to admire the diversity of his amazing talent. He is considered one of the greatest Spanish artists of his generation.

You can see the immensity and variety and talent of his work… From painting style, to ceramic, to ceramic embedded in stone, collage, crayon, pastel… he crossed over every medium, and did it all with his own unique humor and narrative.

From Maeght foundation we drove to Nice and saw their collection of art! The first three are examples of their architecture. Street art everywhere. Sculptures in the sky, that the birds use to perch on, and to poop on😳, and the sculptures through the city.

Color abounds!

And the people!

And the scents! Does this look like dried fruit to eat? Jonny thought so. Not so. It’s oranges yes, but it’s potpourri!

Tomorrow…Monte Carlos, and then on to Italy!

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
