Up close I am beautiful
She said
But you must look closely
And be patient
You must let the sight come to you
For it is tentative
And selective
In who it shows
Let it approach you
As you would a wild animal
Cautiously
Gracefully
Feral
You will want to contain it
Keep it near
So that you may look upon it at your leisure
Place it carefully by like objects
Once you see it
It cannot be unseen
You may find you weep at the sight
People will ask you why
For they do not see it
They have not been as careful
And you will explain it to them
Hands expressive
Eyes filled with love
And some will understand it
And be moved
And some will not
