“How to Manage and Maximize your career”

Continuing professional development for employees is critical to meet the demands and expectations of the evolving workplace. In today’s world of work, organizational restructuring and technological changes are the norm. Career paths have shifted from climbing the corporate ladder to traversing the corporate landscape in search of job enrichment and satisfaction. Maximizing an individual’s career potential to enhance the success of the organization calls for a systems approach in career development.

Systems approaches are characterized by an inter-relationship among parts, all of which are working together toward a defined goal.Systems approaches are implemented in a manner that enables the individual to enter and exit the model at the point most appropriate to the situation. As we examine and foster career growth and development, the model is responsive to the needs of the individuals throughout their tenure with an organization, not just in the early years of their career.

Once your career moves forward, you can think of ways to maximize your career potential. So, this career development is done when we manage and maximize our career.I applied some tips to maximize my career development and also discussed these tips with one of my friend so that she also get some experience, some of tips are as follows:

  • Find your passion and align it with your career
  • Decisions are very unique to each person, what’s right for one isn’t right for the other
  • Own your decisions: Don’t let other people make decisions for you and don’t blame anyone else
  • Do an internship before pursuing a higher degree to confirm if you like that field/industry
  • Don’t do PhD if you want to be an entrepreneur or work in corporate sector
  • Spend at least one year in your first job

My friend is very fond of learning new things, this topic of discussion seem interesting to her. During our conversation I also encouraged her to ask questions if she has any confusion about any of the tip.

She disagreed at the point that Do we have to get admission in PhD or not after Bachelors?..Then I explained her in a way PhD leads your knowledge from broader ends towards narrower. The more important in life is just to get experience of job. If you want to move towards entrepreneurship then PhD should not be your goal.It is required when you would have to teach at University level. The basic thing that I have learned from that activity of sharing such informative tips with one of my best fellow is that mostly people has misconception about PhD. They believe in that fact more deep knowledge and best job would wait for you if you are having a PhD degree. But the point is that you will have to do job in which you are passionate just after your degree because passion matters a lot.
