Designed to recognize and celebrate the impact and achievements of SMEs in Nigeria, BusinessDay awarded 100 Nigerian-based SMEs whose growth in 2018 is commendable. Metro Africa Xpress (MAX) is one of the companies that was given the prestigious award.
MAX is a startup transforming moto-taxi mobility in Africa using mobile apps, inclusive data-driven asset-finance, and a comprehensive driver on-boarding program that uses machine learning and psychometric tests to profile drivers and create credit scores for them. MAX enables financial inclusion for drivers, prioritizes safety, and uses IoT technology to track all drivers in real-time.
The year 2018 is a year that MAX made astronomical progress and got more global recognition. For instance, sometime in March, MAX was featured in the ‘Great Big Story’ a cinematic storytelling company with its headquarters in New York and offices in London that creates micro-documentaries and short films, which have been viewed by millions of people on various websites such as Facebook and YouTube.
The MAX hub team won Jumia delivery partner of the month for the 3rd time in April. In May, CTO, Chinedu Azodoh was interviewed on CNBC and he talked about Nigeria’s motorcycle taxi space and how MAX is transforming the transport sector in Nigeria. In August, MAX app was No 1 trending app in the Maps and Navigation category on Google Play store.
MAX was also featured on CNN Marketplace Africa during the course of the year. And the mobility company won several awards and grants this year, from L.A. New Mobility Challenge which is a major global startup competition focused on urban mobility to the World Summit Awards in Young Innovators category just to mention a few.
All of these was probably what inspired top American University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT, in Boston USA to use the MAX brand as a case study, with the company’s CEO Adetayo Bamiduro speaking at the prestigious 2018 Annual Concordia summit alongside former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo and other fortune 500 companies CEOs.
MAX has graced the stage at various events like eNigeria 2018 in Abuja, Gitex Future Stars, Dubai, TechCrunch Startup Battlefield Africa 2018 etc.
The recognition of MAX by Businessday is well deserving.
