The porcupine forest

Synopsis: The following provides a thick description of what is going on by the lake. Did it used to be a restricted area? Will tourism ever develop in the region? Christy had been elemental in designing the compound but many mysteries remained that chance or declination alone could not possibly explain.

Past the disappointing alleys flanked by oak trees or pine trees
Past the river depicted in the notebook as a marvelous piece of self-incrimination
The end of eeriness it said
The end of dots and reassurances

A blighted shed of wood and bittersweet cookies
It said the location was marked with an X
Drawn with toothpaste on the vanity mirror of a local dancer

Hiring has been slow, letting go has been sharp and lyrical
Our finest elements have displayed amazing skills at building the future
Replacing light rays with elliptic trajectories and churches with billboards
Technical support will be free for the duration of your stay
No other moon will shine to help you find your way around
The notebook at its best

Noble language or postcards dropped in the mailbox by the highway
Like nothing ever crossed your mind
But there is room for crawling to the door
Bribing security or whatever crumbs are left of it
Feeling each wall with one’s fingers won’t do a thing
In the board room you will find comfy chairs and cigar butts
Suitcases firmly locked or what were you thinking
An alternate ending for a mildly boring adventure by the lake

As I remember your looks on day one
As I remember our confinement to the lower floors
A broken espresso machine, a shameful deprivation of tactile screens on telephones around
Uncanny patterns on the brochure but who gives a shit, she said

As I remember the contractual details and all the profiling that led nowhere but to a clinical paycheck
As the constellation of flickering words formed a story no one would ever believe
Unless they were one of the protagonists who passed away
Leaving the narrative unscathed
The surface of the lake untouched
Triggering no alarm and raising no red flag before dusk
Surrounding pristine technologies in secrets so thick that nothing could ever cross their minds

As to how and why I remember what is left in that shiny building of the past
Lost and found by the lake
Once a pretty good spot to swim and shine
Once you agree to every footnote
Once you agree to have another breakfast at the mall
I simply don’t know how and why
or where to find a map to the forest that wouldn’t just display sneaky traps and demons
