Materials researchers and experts gathered in Boston for the Materials Research Society (MRS) Fall Meeting & Exhibit at the end of November. As part of the event, MForesight hosted a report briefing for our upcoming report on Metamaterials Manufacturing.

Over 50 interested MRS attendees from academia, industry, and government gathered on Wednesday, November 29 to learn more about the challenges and opportunities in scaling-up metamaterials manufacturing. Chris Spadaccini of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory provided an overview of the key actionable recommendations and research needed to accelerate the translation of metamaterials from the laboratory prototypes to full volume manufacturing. A panel of noted experts in metamaterials provided a variety of perspectives on how the research community can help translate metamaterials to U.S. manufacturing:

  • Julia R. Greer, California Institute of Technology
  • Clara Rivero-Baleine, Lockheed Martin
  • Chris Spadaccini, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
  • Lorenzo Valdevit, University of California, Irvine
  • Jim Watkins, University of Massachusetts-Amherst

The event wrapped up with an engaging Q&A session covering topics ranging from emerging applications to technical barriers. Thank you to all who joined the event and to MRS for hosting.
