What am I?

Clouds overhead, masking the Sun,

I’ve memories of being inside them once.

Stumbling across the mountain top,

Beginning a journey to provide life.

The pace seemed like a trickle at first,

Maneuvering around the obstacles.

The incline became steeper,

I slipped and fell a short distance.

Suddenly I found myself in a bed,

I didn’t want to remain, the forces too great.

I could no longer find my route,

It was provided to me without thought.

I was witness to the amazing scene,

Surrounded by life as my journey went on.

Trees, birds, animals encircle me as I go,

The cycle must complete, I cannot rest.

The roar around me is intense,

Building to a deafening crescendo inside.

The vibrations reverberated through me,

Shaking to the very center of my being.

There to my front, a terrible sight,

A drop like no other I’d seen, such remarkable falls.

I would not be stopped on my journey,

The importance of completion too great.

I’d been traveling for a long time, days I think,

Surely I must be getting close to finalizing the trip.

There it was, the end of the excursion, the destination,

My momentum slowed a bit as I could see the final step.

Without much fanfare I finally reached my goal,

I’d made it, I was the single drop in the vast ocean.
